Mice, rodents, etc... What is the best way to get rid of them?

Also, fleas - we have a cat ( who is scared of the mouse ), and she has fleas. We have sprayed her, we have treated her with the stuff you put on her back, and we have sprayed our house some - but we cannot get rid of them. I know it takes time. And, you can't treat her too many times within a certain period of time---- Help ----- PLEASE!!!!!!Mice, rodents, etc... What is the best way to get rid of them?
If I were in your situation I would definitely follow Franny Syufy's advice. She is a very knowledgeable.

I once found a flea nest inside of a mouse nest. It was pretty horrid.

The trick is to kill the rodents without hurting Mr. Cattypuss. My friend Craig has a PhD and is an extirmination EXPERT (rodents are responsible for the greatest loss of crops). I could write a small book on the topic. The bottom line is this: you have to stop them from getting in (and a mouse can get in a dime-sized hole anywhere below ground from several feet away from the house, up to the roof). And the ones that are already in you have to kill in a rigorous multi-step process. Poison, placed WHERE YOU HAVE SEEN THE MOUSE (or his droppings). Different kinds, to feed his appetite, and always replenish it if all of it is eaten. Traps are the most economical (see placement above). I prefer the old fashioned copper bait trigger Victor trap. The only problem is, you need someone who is very handy, because you should take a needlenose pliers and fine tune the trigger until it pops on the SLIGHTEST pressure.

I love killing rodents. Thanks, Craig.
Take your cat to be dipped. Either a vet or a groomer can do this.

I don't like suggesting this, but you might want to put rat poison where the mouse can get it but your cat can't.

For the fleas: Close your cat in the bathroom and sprinkle the rest of the house with Borax, including the furniture. Let it sit at least 20 minutes, then vacuum. Keep vacuuming every day for at least two weeks to get the fleas and flea eggs. Don't forget to wash your bedding and curtains: Fleas will hide there too.

Good luck!
that is a disaster! call a professional pest control company and time it so you can take your cat to the vet and get a flea bath at the same time.

good luck to you.

aj
i didn't let my cats be picky about what to eat. i believe in the old saying that, '; a picky cat is not really a hungry cat.'; so whenever my cats acted that way, i let them go hungry till they decided that the food available was good enough to eat.

but that only works if you keep them indoors, as i did, so they can't find anything else to eat.

and THAT'S the key to solving BOTH your problems in the future, after you get rid of the fleas in conventional ways. because if you don't let your cat go outside, he/ she won't get fleas. and if you let him or her go hungry until NATURAL INSTINCTS override timidity, I bet your cat will develop a taste for mice.

your cat has lost the natural role of predator by being ';pampered'; too much. don't underestimate your cat.
get a pest control person...
I would call someone in to get rid of the critters, but also buy borax and put in carpet and vacuum, and vacuum. It's awful, I just put Advantage on my cats, as the fleas are starting to come out in Fla. already. I also use a flea comb on them to catch them..good luck.
smoke bomb into their nest.
get an exterminator and hire a qualified contractor to seal all foundation cracks in and around the home. have the vet clean the cat and keep it indoors.
