Why do rats smell more then other rodents?

It's just so weird. I mean, a rat can be REALLY friendly, but then again it can smell putrid. A gerbil can be nasty (sometimes) but smell a WHOLE lot better. What do you think? Why do rats smell more then other rodents?
Rats really don't smell worse than other rodents, especially females. The Males sometimes smell a little worse because of hormones if you give your male rat a bath it will help take care of that... just not too often and a male rats urine smells bad but if you clean the cage regularly it helps you can also buy drops for there water that is supposed help.

However Rats are actually very clean, so are a lot of rodents but rats are one of the cleanest. They keep them self's pretty bad-smelling free. Mice smell a lot worse along with alot of hamsters and other rodents. I think female rats are the best mannered. Why do rats smell more then other rodents?
They don't smell any worse than other animals, but maybe subconsciously we conjure up the bad smell as associated with them because of their typical environment in the wild. Ferrets smell a whole lot worse, and try plunging your head into a snake enclosure after it has been left closed for a while - phew !!
rats dont smeel at all. If you think that it smelled, thats because you didnt take care of it properly
Could it be size? How do Ginnie pigs compare?
