I'm out of money and I have a hedgehog's whose cage is more than a little ucky. Can I use newspaper or cardboard or something I'll have in the house? Any suggestions are appreciated. What are some cheap alternatives to litter for rodents?
You can use newspaper, but shred it up a bit with scissors so the hedgie has something to play in. You will have to change it daily or it will be smelly. What are some cheap alternatives to litter for rodents?
i haven't had a hedgehog, but i have had hamsters...

i used to use sawdust which came pre packed, but you can use dry grass or leaves, shredded newspaper, fine sand, or even shredded paper- as long as it doesn't have ink, but youll need to chnage this Every Day!! cardboard is also great- but it soaks up really fast and is yuckier to change lol...
Newspaper , but that can leave newsprint on their fur and doesnt soak up very well. Paper towels work nicley if you layer them, and they are fun for the rodents to shred. Or, very thin cardboard such as that which you find inside of TP.
Finely shredded newspaper, like size of paper having been shredded by a ';machine';. Don't use magazines or the shiney supplement of newpapers as the ink is easily shed and can be toxic.
Shredded paper -you can get it from most offices who has shredding facilities.
shredded paper, like old bills which you dont want people to see
