Most animals hate the smell of mothballs. Mice are a little different--they hate the smell of mint ( get some mint oil and cotton balls)

You can get supersonic emitters that deter mice and rodents
mothballs if you can stand the smell. You'll be able to smell it a block away, but it will get rid of them.
