Is it ok to never feed a Savannah Monitor rodents or live prey?

At the pet store, the manager said that they would become aggressive if they eat a diet of rodents and other animals. He said for it to be more tame as an adult we would have to feed it monitor food, dog food, and eggs. But never live animals, because then they become blood-thirsty and are more likely to bite.

Is this true? And do pre-killed mice have the same effects? Is it ok to never feed a Savannah Monitor rodents or live prey?
You should definitely feed him rodents. He needs the vitamins and minerals that rodents offer. Be careful about the dog food, it is high in fat and Savs have a tendency toward obesity. Feeding live won't affect their temperament. but the live rodent can harm them by biting clawing, etc. Pre-killed or frozen/thawed is definitely better in my opinion. If, by ';bloodthirsty'; you mean aggressive, yes they can become aggressive. I'm, dealing with one now that I am trying to tame. BUT that has more to do with not interacting with them than what you feed them.

Hope this helps!

p.s. I;ve Had had mine about a month and a half, and the guy that had him before didn't handle him as often as he should have. So, I now have an aggressive baby! lol he is making progress though! just takes patience! Is it ok to never feed a Savannah Monitor rodents or live prey?
~sigh~ More really really bad monitor care advice from a pet store. No surprise there. Whole prey food items only, that means insects and rodents. You want to kill a monitor, follow the pet store's advice. Avoid ALL the items he told you to feed. Feeding the proper diet won't make your monitor mean or bloodthirsty... they are naturally aggressive and are very eager feeders if kept properly, though you can get them to tolerate you.
hahahahahahahahaah! nope. its not true at all. your all so silly!!!!hahahahahahahahahah! the only prey that should be fed to any monitor is whole bugs and rodents. thats it. dead or live they will eat it (but the monitors definitly preffer the thrill of the kill) it does matter, as long as its is whole bugs and or rodents. none of you should have answerd this question (except ';becky b'; )since you all have no idea what your talking about.
no, I have one and since it was 16 inches long I have been feeding it live or frozen rodents and live fish since it was 9 inches long and insects for hatchlings. but you could give it monitor food if you like.
feeding live rodents is fine. i've had a savannah for 3 years and it eats only live prey. as long as you handle it on a regular basis it should be tame.
i would not use dog food as canned food its high in fat, a can cat food made from fish will work well or monitor food works well that's what i was feeding my 4 breeders but again its a predator and it does have the power to do serious damage if not careful. also normal handling can help.
It's true. They will learn to strike at movement, even if it's your hand. This is dangerous when they are adults.

You can feed pre-killed food items. Just never let it associate your hand with food.
very little dog food is ok but u cannot not feed it animal prey whether frozen or live they do not gert aggressive as long as you properly train them they arte wonderful lizard pets eggs make them have stinky poop but are very good for them
Yes
