Why is is common knowledge rodents like cheese?

i mean, its not like its natural or they can find it in the wild.

i don't know why but i know that my hamsters like cheese, and they do. ive not looked it up or anything i just sort of know.Why is is common knowledge rodents like cheese?
Mice dont like cheese... they like chocolate:DWhy is is common knowledge rodents like cheese?
The makers of Tom and Jerry got it wrong - mice don't like cheese. According to researchers from Manchester Metropolitan University, the rodents prefer foods with a lot of sugar, chocolate for example. A mouse's natural diet is primarily made up of grains and fruit, both high in sugar. Dr David Holmes, a senior psychologist at the university, said: ';Mice respond to the smell, texture and taste of food. Cheese is something that would not be available to them in their natural environment and so not something they would respond to.';
There is something about cheese that most small mammals like. The fact that it is not good for them doesn't come into question! Most are able to cope with small quantities, mainly due to problems caused by additional salts and proteins that many small mammals don't cope with. In the wild many of them will eat insects and get protein that way.

Many rodents such as rats and mice have evolved to eat cheese as part of their scavenging diet and to survive with human waste. The flavour is somehow very alluring! In most cases,with the exception of exotic species such as degus and chinchillas, it is fine in very small quantities, the former it can cause severe problems due to the way their digestive systems have evolved.
Well, I don't really know much about how cheese was the chosen subject, but you're right, it isn't natural.Most smaller rodent will eat just about anything.But don't you think a mouse and cheese go cutely together?
Most small rodents will eat anything.

I think cheese was chosen because it came across well visually for cartoons etc.

But generally, most rodents are naturally scavangers and will eat ANYTHING offered to them- bread, tea, doughnuts, cheese...
Mice %26amp; other rodents most certainly DO like cheese! I had an entire colony of Angora mice that devoured cheese like a school of piranha. My theory is that they eat it because it's high in fat %26amp; protein, something high-energy, omnivorous animals relish.
Mice dont like it, my mother inlaw had them in her garage once (eeewww), and they wouldnt eat the cheese on the traps, someone advised her to try chocolate, she did and it worked!
apparently too much cheese can poison rodents!!!
Yep, defo chocolate! It realy does work.
I have no idea but that is a great question! I have wondered that myself.
