A rabbit... i got one for easter and we have two smaller dogs and he's awesome. A lot smarter than I would have ever imagined. I treat him like the dogs too... come let him hop around inside, he follows me/ the dogs, hops on the couch!! You can litter train them. I know his schedule around eating/ sleeping so theyre arent many accidents.Any body have good ideas for pets that are not from the wild, but can live in a house besides rodents?

The Golden Lion Tamarin
How about a hermit crab? They don't need much care or interaction but they are nice pets. I use to have them.
Tropical fish are always great to have around, they don't eat too much. Don't cause allergy's and compared to a dog or cat, cleaning up after them is relitively simple. Plus, they really add alot to the decor in a room. I have'nt had any for some time, but i miss them, and always remember how relaxing it was after a long day to come home and stare at my fish...well, good luck no matter what you decide.

well it really depends on what she/he likes and also what part of the country your from.

I have 2 cats and their indoor pets Their lovely if you want company because their just always their!!

Dogs are also a nice animal because their more than just an animal they become your friend.

I have gold fish... may sound boring but you still got to look after them.

Any indoor animal would be good just whatever you choose your friend will like, its the thort that counts!

Hope i helped xx
A bird !!

You can learn it talk to you and keep you company.
You should never give a pet as a gift!!! What if they don't want it? By getting someone a pet you are forcing that person to either spend money and take care of it or cause the animal to suffer the consequences. Thats why there are so many unwanted pets at the humane society after the holidays. Do your friend a favor- give her a giftcard, cash or something that she would really want. If she wants a pet, she'll buy one on her own...
a dog, cat, rabbit, fish or ferret are the best non-rodent pets i can think of.

oh, and by the way rabbits are not rodents, they are lagamorphs, and ferrets are not rodents, they are in the Mustalidae family.
How about a bird or a fish, like a tetra. Tetras are easy to maintain.
First and foremost, you need to talk to your friedn to be sure they WANT a pet and what kind. It's such a personal thing, you can't really 'pick one' for someone else. Once you're sure he/she really wants a pet and what kind, look at www.petfinder.com to find a nearby rescue and get your friend a gift certificate to the rescue so they can pick out their own pet. Sometimes people and animals don't 'click', it's important your friend make their own decision about not only what kind of pet, but which one, for this to work. There are rescues not only for dogs and cats, but rabbits, guinea pigs, birds...you name it, it's out there.
before u get ANYONE, even ur best friend, a pet for their birthday, make sure it is alright with them AND their parents first
cat, but not a dog for a present too big
dogs, cats, birds (especially male parakeets)
a gift card for a pet shop that sells small animals, or an IOU to take her to a small animal breeder to pick one out on you.
