Can you keep different kinds of rodents together in a cage together?

Im not planning on doing this i was just curious. Like for example, a gerbil and a hamster, or a mouse and a gerbil?

and is it possible for small rodents to crossbreed? Can you keep different kinds of rodents together in a cage together?
Animals can be mixed with any type of animal really. However, it takes careful consideration of the individual animal. For small rodents, they have strong natural instincts to protect their territory, especially rabbits. However, if you raise them from babies, they will most likely learn to accept each other.

Hamsters, mice and gerbils are not very aggressive animals... Again, raise them together from the time they are young and it will work out okay in most cases. Never ever ever place a new animal in a cage where another animal has already lived by itself. It will cause territorial issues, regardless of the breed. Two rabbits are likely to kill each other just as much as a gerbil and mouse if they are introduced wrong.

The only concerns I would have is the dietary issues. I had a rabbit and guinea pig live together for years just fine and they shared the same food (I fed them both guinea pig food). Although the vitamins and minerals are slightly different per breed of animal, I've never personally witnessed an animal dying simply because of the type of animal food they ate. In this case, I would feed more natural foods, such as hays, fresh fruits and vegetables, and such to help balance out any dietary issues.

Personally, I have always mixed animals. I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, a rabbit, and a bird. They all LOVE each other. The dogs are entertained by the cats, the cats are entertained by the dogs, etc... It's really cute to see my cat curled up with the rabbit in his cage and sleeping together. It definately does not work in every situation, but I have trained my animals and raised them around all types of animals... It helps their behavior to be exposed to other breeds of animals in my opinion. For instance, my cats have been exposed to so many types of small animals that they know they are friendly creatures and they do not view them as their ';next meal';. My dogs have learned how to be gentle with smaller animals so they do not rough them up.

In regards to crossbreeding, it is not uncommon for a male animal to mate with a female animal if they are of different breeds. However, it will not result in a pregnancy. Just becareful with that because animal mating procedures are different depending on breed and it could potentially hurt another animal if they try to do this. Can you keep different kinds of rodents together in a cage together?
Well. you can keep a guinea pig and a rabbit together so i imagine you can because they are all rodents. And gerbils and mice are kind of the same because they both are looking for a place to escape. Plus the gerbil looks like a mouse. And no, i dont think it's possible for rodents to cross breed
it is usually not safe because rodents get very territorial and they fight. sometimes though, two different animals can live together happily and never fight. it just kind of depends on what kind of animal you get. i definelty wouldn't put different genders in the same cage though.
No it was cause aggression...mice are more carnivorous than gerbils they might harm them. Rabbits are NOT rodents and they should NOT be kept in a cage with guinea pigs. You need to keep one species to a cage, sorry.
no. they will fight and kill each other. not a good idea.d rodents all together like to be alone. except mice and rats and ferrets
it is risky and depends on the rodents.for sure as somebody at a pet store.
they wont crossbreed, they wont get along.
no.

sorry :(
