Hi. I've recently started planning my own dog walking business, but i'm also considering looking after people's hamsters, rats, mice, gerbils etc when they go away on holiday. This is obviously a service that'd be more popular during the summer months. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any advice as to how i could advertise this service, and also if you think it's a good idea or not.
Please let me know your suggestions. I'd be very grateful to hear your ideas and opinions
Charlotte. How could I go about looking after people's rodents when they go away on holiday?
Hello Charlotte
Think about what the demand is likely to be for such a service. How many people have rodents as pets? I should imagine there could be a demand as it's not the sort of service that everyone would want to provide.
Postcards in local newsagents is a cheap way to promote what you're doing. Your local pet stores might also allow you to put up a poster as it helps their customers. They might even be willing to keep a stack of your business cards at the till and give one to everyone who buys a hamster or gerbil or products related to them.
The best promotion you can get is some coverage by the local press. Someone in our area had a piece about their rabbit hotel. Think of a newsy angle. It might be that you're expanding your business from dog walking to taking care of rats and mice.
Good luck!
Regards

You have several options, from looking after the pets in their own home, to having them in your own home.
Have you looked into the probable costs of the business?
You should have a chat with a good accountant, these worked for me...........
