How do you feel about pet snakes eating rodents?

Many people with snakes or lizards feed them animals like mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits and baby chicks. Some people feed them alive, while others pre-kill them both humanely and not-so-humanely.





What are your thoughts on this?


Is it ever okay or not okay to do this?


Would you ever own a snake or lizard that needs these kinds of meals?How do you feel about pet snakes eating rodents?
Snakes have to eat just like all living creatures. If you keep pets like these it's something you have to be able to handle. You should only feed them humanly pre-killed prey. Live prey is dangerous to a snake -rats still have sharp teeth. How do you feel about pet snakes eating rodents?
for me,i realize the need of snakes for flesh of animals and that they need those to survive.just like us.we need to kill and eat animals to survive.i do not see any other substitute for live meat that scientists can ever invent that is especially made for meat-eating animals.but maybe they can create commercialized pellets containing all nutrients from meat animals and try to find a way to feed to feed it on snakes.but all the same,there are no other substitutes

~as i said,it is okay for me.seeing that this also happens on the wild and i see no reason why not do it on domesticated snakes for them survive...

~i can never imagine myself owning one.i have rabbits,you see.and owning snakes put their lives at risk....

I feed mine pre kill rats (in fact I have to go get one tomorrow shes hungry) I have to pre kill them myself so she won't get hurt by the rat. I feel bad about it but I would never get rid of her. I started her out feeding live and planned on doing it forever but i found out they can become really hurt. If I would go back I would have probably not gotten her. She is still a cool snake though.





EDIT: I got mine eating smaller live rats again so I don't have to pre-kill them. yippie. She eats 2 in a row

I personally dont own a snake, I eat meat, but not as much as many people..





I used to know people who got ';FREE TO GOOD HOME'; Kittens out of the newspaper and used them for snake food - always killing the kittens first so they didnt scratch the snake.. this is entirely legal..





basically I dont think snakes enjoy being pets - so I dont own one.
it makes me sad, because i have pet hamsters but i guess its life right? I thik ppl who have to do this hould feed them to their pets dead, not alive dont make em suffer. oh and they should only feed em rats they arent as cute lol no seriously those tails freak me out!!!!
i think it is wrong but you no all animals have to eat but i would never get a thing that has to eat like that i would pre kill them humanely as possible like buy them pre killed
thats how nature is so its ok, but i do feel bad for them, but everyone has to eat and things eat snakes too. i wouldnt own one because it could get a bit pricey.
I dont like it at all, I like little furry animals, but you know, snakes have to eat too.


We cant all just starve snakes because we dont like one thing.









No. I Hate the fact that snakes and lizards eat this. But i guess theres nothing people can do about it. Every Animal needs to eat.
