What happens if dogs or cats get a hold of poisoned rodents?

We have dogs that may take a dead rat in to their mouths. Is the pioson still as potent after it has been ingested by a rodent? What happens if dogs or cats get a hold of poisoned rodents?
Just putting the dead rodent in their mouth probably won't hurt your dog but anything beyond that is bad. Try to dispose of those rodents before your dog can even get near them. Anything that can kill a rat can kill a dog if the dog gets enough of it.What happens if dogs or cats get a hold of poisoned rodents?
Its called secondary poisoning. Not all of the poison will be digested so it and even what has been digested is still very potent. If cats or dogs get a hold of rodents who have died due to poison, eat any part of them the animals can get seriously sick or die without proper vet care.
The first answers are all correct. They can get poisoned if the chew on it. Be very careful around poisons and animals. Some don't show signs until it is to late. I would keep a VERY close eye on the dogs. If the show even little signs of not acting normal, get them checked by a vet.
the poison is just as toxic to your pets as it is to the rodents, you really have to watch out when poisoning if you have animals!!
yes!!! if an animal eats a rodent that has been poisoned, the animal can be poisoned as well.
