What is a cat that can catch rodents and be gental around kids?

My prvious question was what is the safest place so I can runaway? Thanks to mynew friend, I dont want to anymore. But, since my mom works in the F.B.I I need a cat to do all of the catching of the rodents. I take care of my sister, she is only 3. What type of cat will do the dirty work and be nice to my lil sis? What is a cat that can catch rodents and be gental around kids?
First off, call an exterminator. To be safe, just schedule a time when you and your little sister are not the only ones at home. Have a trusted friend or neighbor sit over during that time or something. You need to call the exterminator BEFORE you get the new cat because rodents and the like carry disease, bacteria, infections, and parasites that may be harmful to a cat (not to mention you and your sister.) Get that taken care of first.

As for a friendly cat toward people, my personal experience says

1) Don't get a Siamese

2) Neutered males are more sweet/affectionate than femalesWhat is a cat that can catch rodents and be gental around kids?
Female cats are the BEST mousers. I live in the country and have had my cat both inside and out. Inside the house I have never seen a single mouse, even though there was evidence of them having been there when I first moved in. The only ones I had seen outside were the ones she brought to the door, dead, as ';gifts';. I will only have female cats now.
call an exterminator to get rid of your mouse problem. get a cat as an indoor pet.
since you planned on running away at one point or another........i would suggest getting a (older) indoor cat that will always be there for you.........i would say just about all cats have that killing instinct and are fairly harmless to humans..........usually older cats will play with then kill rodents and younger cats will usually only play with them.........

well hope things work out for you and your younger sister.....

---------or you can ask someone you know that has a outside cat........and borrow them over the weekend..........that will probably get you job done!!!!!1
Most mix breeds you can get from shelters are relitivly good. Get them as young as you can (if not a kitten atleast a year old) and love them. We had cats when I was little and they were great with me. But don't count on them being great mousers. They may or may not do what you want. There is always mouse traps that you can place in certain locations... You don't want the pring loaded ones because thos pinch little fingers. There are some that have sticki pads. Call an exterminator to place some traps down (you can request sticki pads and not the spring traps). I had mice in my old apartment and that's what they put in. Look for possible ways they could get in and seal them (look around pipes in your bathroom/kitchens). A mouse needs a hole as big as it's head to get anywhere.
A 3 year old usually loves to hold kittens but.....usually the kitten ends up hurting them and scratching them because a 3 year old doesn't know how to treat a cat. If you can watch your little sister when she is around the cat then it's ok to get one but if you can't, I'd wait until she is older for an inside cat....outside is fine because it can control your mouse problem.
